Family Partnerships

Relationships - Communication - Engagement - Support

Strong relationships with families are essential to our program’s effectiveness. We view families as our partners in supporting children’s development and learning.

Building Relationships:

We create a welcoming environment where all families feel respected and valued. Our approach includes:

  • Daily communication through multiple methods to accommodate family preferences

  • Regular opportunities for families to participate in their child’s classroom experiences

  • Scheduled conferences to discuss children’s progress and set goals collaboratively

  • Responsiveness to family questions, concerns, and ideas

  • Recognition of families’ expertise regarding their own children

  • Cultural humility and willingness to learn from families about their values and practices

Two-Way Communication:

We engage in ongoing dialogue with families, sharing information about children’s experiences and learning while also learning from families about their children, goals, and home experiences. Communication methods include:

  • Daily informal conversations at arrival and departure

  • Written communication through notes, emails, or electronic platforms

  • Newsletters and updates about classroom activities and center happenings

  • Conferences and individual meetings

  • Family events and engagement opportunities

Family Engagement:

We offer varied opportunities for families to participate in and contribute to our program:

  • Volunteering in classrooms and on field trips

  • Sharing their skills, interests, and cultural traditions with children

  • Participating in family events, celebrations, and educational workshops

  • Providing input on program decisions and policies

  • Connecting with other families to build community

Supporting Family Well-Being:

We recognize that children’s learning is deeply connected to family well-being. When appropriate, we:

  • Connect families with community resources and support services

  • Provide information about child development and parenting

  • Offer lending libraries with books and materials families can use at home

  • Support transitions that families are experiencing

  • Recognize and respond sensitively to family stresses and challenges
